Vitamin B3 (niacin)
Also listed as: niacinamide, nicotinamide, niacin
- What it is
- A B vitamin your cells use to turn food into usable energy. Niacinamide and niacin are two forms of it.
- Why it is in energy drinks
- B vitamins are added to energy drinks because they help release energy from food. They are not stimulants and have no calories.
- Worth knowing
- Energy drinks often contain many times the daily value. B vitamins dissolve in water and the extra is mostly excreted. The form called niacin (nicotinic acid, not niacinamide) can cause skin flushing at supplement doses of around 30 mg or more.
