Taurine

What it is
An amino-acid-like compound your body makes itself and that you also get from meat, fish and dairy. The taurine in drinks is made synthetically.
Why it is in energy drinks
It is a staple of energy drinks, often 1,000 mg or more per can, marketed for endurance and mental performance.
Worth knowing
Research on taurine by itself in energy drinks is limited, and the studies that exist mostly test it together with caffeine.

General information, not medical advice. We read what the label lists and don't test what an ingredient does.
